A set of first impression.. thanks, Tony!
Opening standard. Nirvana at 1:55, and it's delightful as always!
Mike's solo section around 2:37 is unduly somber, even sad.. Mike
makes the 'doc weep.. The first shot at the Note at around 3:54 was
somewhat fudged by Trey, jammed on a little, and then sustained out..
second shot at the Note at 4:38 is hit well and then jammed on in
typically great fashion.
"Boy" at 5:10 after an ok scream, but it is followed by a strong
MAN and GOD and SHiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit (with echo effect a lil).
Echo
effect all over this WUDMTF segment, which is fairly upbeat and
active, fwiw. At 7:10 the tramps segment kicks in, and Mike starts
signaling, and Page starts tearin' it up. Page is very, very
active
in here, folks.. very sweet activity from him!!!! He doesn't
always
go off like this, that's for damn sure. And Trey accompanies
a little
with Mike in here, too, to close out the segment!
At 8:45 the jam segment just KickS IN!!!!!! Trey immediately starts
repeating a catchy little theme-lick wicked fast, and damn, if this
is
a tease of something I don't recognize it. Trey continues to
solo
mellifluously and really **JAM**!! And there's strong accompaniment
from the others tabooot! For a YEM that started out unduly commonly,
this is really one =^] of a jam!!!
Trey noodles quickly and melodiously around 10:30 or so.. damn.
Is he
going to run out of steam!?!?!? Ten bucks says this jam segment
doesn't last past 12 minutes at this rate!!! Ouch!!!!
The accompaniment from the others is equally strong.. jam concludes
rather hastily, though..
Bass and drums at 11:33.. Mike funks very low on the 'doc,
repetitively. Incredibly dull.
Closing WUDMTF segment at around 12:30 or so (but there was a fade out
to side B with a little lost). Vocal jam is equally crazy and
pscyhotic, with lots of animal noises, groans, screams, echo effects..
incredibly strange vocal jam, even for vocal jams. They really
need
to do THIS again.. give us a break from all of the vocal harmonizing
and just cut it loose with psychotic weirdness.. oh, wait.. Vegas'
YEM
vocal jam sounds like a good one... Lots of "Aaaaaaah" noises
towards
the end. Total time around 15 minutes or something.
Short. Wicked short. But pretty damn good all things considered.
C+
rating.
two cents
p.s. Page's solo in Coil contained a bunch of Harpua teases with
a
little accompaniment from Fish, fwiw. Definitely unusual for
Coil,
which is a good song to sit down for, imo. The Harpua contains
a nice
description of Harpua ("scabs").. you know, it would be nice to get
the Whole Story again. The Original Story. This is one
of those old
REAL harpuas.. ;) "Oh I love you so much... I had to give you
that
special name that shows you how much I love you... POSTER
NUTBAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Jimmy wasn't playing anything on the
stereo, however.. oh well. "YOUR CAT DIIIIIIIIIIED!!!"
Hysterical
Whippin Post.. Fish "plays" fretless guitar.. Definitely one
of the
most hysterical versions (see also 3/9/90 or whatever it is.. the
version in early March 90..). This 10/28 'post was the first time Fish
had ever played the fretless guitar..
"Very special night."
-- Trey, after mentioning Fish's first use of the Fretless Guitar.
