11/30/95 Ervin J. Nutter Center, Dayton, OH Tim Corcoran, I can't thank you enough for turning me on to this jam. I know
I was the one who wanted to hear the show based on the Harry (E) in the first place, but you sent me a very good DAUD of it,
and well, read on. In sum, you are invited to send me blanks and return in any amount at any time in the future. May Icculus
Forever Bless You!!! (MIFBY) Very relaxed, groovy tempo. Slower than usual. Mike funks out in the pre-Ebeneezer lyric jam
segment.. ain't a standard opening, in this sense. But the jam isn't very long at all, unfortunately. The Ebeneezer lyric comes in
surprisingly early, around 4 mins. Jam segment starts at 4:30. Fish has not picked up the beat at all. Still in this very laid back
tempo.. not as upbeat as usual. Nothing at all in the opening of the jam from Trey.. A very spooky opening in this sense..
mysterious! Very quiet, light licks from Trey and Page. And then at 5:32 Trey comes in jazzily grooving. Given what Page and
Mike are adding in here, this is an **INTENSELY SPELL BINDING** groove, though! The sort of Tweezer opening that
just fills you with exciting anticipation.. At 6:15, Trey gets into a curious theme, which he repeats for a bit in typical
tweezeresque fashion.. DAMN.. this jam has all the typical Tweezer elements that you'd expect.. funky, eerie, dark, ominous..
but Trey is jazzily dishing out notes & chords in a very thematic way. Just FANTASTIC improv in here... (sounds composed!)
At 9:15, Trey sustains for a bit, and then uses an effect to kick it up..!! The jamming in here is captivating and magical! Mike
and Page and Fish are accompanying Trey's soloing with the usual professionalism... Lots of Page around 11 minutes... Trey is
chording repetitively in here. Page is The Man at this point. The jam settles down a bit at 11:30.. Fish changes the rhythm, Trey
employs some distortion in a scary progression, and then wails out of it after a minute or so. At 13 minutes, Trey gets into the
upper octaves of the 'doc and fires off some licks. At 13:40 Trey finds a great theme, and starts twisting it and soaring with it..
by 14:15, he JUST WAILS AWAY, and Fish kicks the beat into something near-Antelopian!! WOW!! Everyone is just tearing
up the damn Nutter Center at 14:40.. Niiiiiice!!!! The groove is TOTAL HOSE around 15 minutes, before it drops into a quiet
mode (a sort of Weekapaugian quiet mode in here.. the beat Fish is kicking out is somewhat akin to the 'groove). Indeed, at
15:30, the jam sounds like it could segue into Llama, given the style of chords Trey is throwin down, along with Fish's fearsome
drumming! Page lets loose in here, too! Mike is not that UP in this mix, unfortunately.. tough to make him out at times...
DAMN!!! Trey keeps wailing away, and Page plays chords akin to a psychotic Tweezer Reprise for a few seconds.. The Boys
are hosing everyone down MANIACALLY around 16:52!!!! FWIW, this jam in here kicks the SHIT out of the Hose at
Hershey, which I listened to intently only yesterday (review's a comin). THIS IS HOT!!!!!! ACK!!!
@?%$@*$#^(!^(#^$#&^!@@*!#@ Trey and everyone is just WIGGING OUT throughout here!! (17:30) right now..
YIKES!! Total hose.. at 17:55 Trey starts playing the Tweezer theme, and then they gloriously segue back into the Tweezer
theme jam! CHRIST!!! What I just heard is some of the Greatest Tweezer Jamming I've *ever* heard, folks. Get this severely
hosed Tweezer at all costs!! At 19:05, the jam is slowin down down down.. eases back.. funky.. at 19:23, OH MY GOD!!
Trey starts up Makisupa!!! THIS IS SOOOO SWEEEET!!!!! JESUS MARY AND JOSEPH!!!! At 20 minutes, everyone is
merrily playing a seriously up-tempo Makisupa.. [HUUUUGE GRIN]. Woke up in the morning.. TEA. ;-] Oh my God. I'm
sorry all you Bomb Factory fans, but this Tweezer has a jam segment that is so fierce, so melodically magnifiscent, and so
enchantingly body-quaking, that that 5/7/94-2 jam sounds like your run-of-the-mill HorseSilent by comparison. The jamming in
here is much more serious than any jam in that set. Tremendous Hose. I cannot recommend this version enough. Indeed, I am
actually **EMBARRASSED** that I love 10/22/95-2 as much as I do. This version BLOWS IT AWAY. As many of you
know, I have never given a 10.0 rating to Tweezer, because I could always envision a better version. Well, that "better
version" has materialized, and IT IS 11/30/95 Dayton. And if anyone doubts me, have a listen (or another listen, because you
sure as hell weren't paying attention). I think I'd be being an even more exceptional dick to Phish than I usually am if I gave this
version anything less than a 10.0. The segue into Antelope out of Makisupa is wild.. Trey starts playing a reggae Antelope of
sorts (the theme) at Makisupa's end, using the psychedelic watery Leslie guitar effect. He employs this effect through most of
the opening Antelope segment, too. Not THAT special an opening, though... I'm going to break with tradition and talk a little
about this Antelope. IT IS ONE OF THE MOST INCREDIBLE VERSIONS I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!! The
jam segment is more fiery than the 10/31/94 Antelope's, although I do like the mesmerizing jam that that version has. Mark, if
you thought 10/28/95 was special, listen to THIS version!! 10/28 is CHEEEEESE next to this!!! Trey is the Pinnacle of
Greatness in this jam segment!! He fires away masterfully all over the damn jam! He even jams in the Rye Rye Rocco
segment!!! This is easily the best Antelope I've heard from '95, and I've heard the majority of them. The 12/30/95 Antelope is
like Hydrogen compared to this ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE MIND-BLOWING VERSION!!! As if this weren't enough,
Scent comes in immediately after this SIIICK version, and is also quite energetic.. (wipe sweat from brow) I'd rather listen to
this Tweezer->Makisupa->Antelope more than anything I've heard from the Fall, except NYE sets two & three and the Albany
YEM (but I still haven't heard Binghamton's second set and Portland..). The Makisupa is very active, and since it is upbeat, it
isn't spacey like Spokane's and 10/22/95. Of course, I've only heard 30 shows from the Fall tour, so there could be jams out
there that will hose me off even more than this... buuuut, I still had to tell everybody about this. THANKS, TIM
CORCORAN!!! two cents p.s. as if the above weren't enough, this Harry (E) made me weep in ecstatic joy... this one really hit
a chord with me. I've made a lot of comments about Hood before, notably about how so many versions were awesome. This
puts many great Hoods to shame, though, imo. Not only is the jam segment astoundingly gorgeous, but the wailing that Trey
does at the end is also phenomenal. I wouldn't put any Hood that I've heard above this one. (sniff) I'd like to thank the original
taper of this particular copy (I think this is from AKG 460s w/cards), for including the jamming "Linus & Lucy" (Peanuts theme
song) that Paul played when the lights went up.
