I'm fairly certain that crispy pure digital boards
are available of this show, fwiw. Straightforward
opening, though a little slower rhythm than usual, a
bit on the funky side. Mike and Trey accentuate some
lyrics, though. No serious jam before the Ebeneezer
lyric, like all old versions.
The jam segment begins after the Ebeneezer chaos at
about 4:28. Mike is very funky, dropping some
serious bombs. Trey is jamming fairly harsh -- rock
star Trey. Lots of chords and minimal picking in the
first few minutes. The jam is very dark, and Trey
quite prominent in the mix o'er the top. Fish and
Mike just kick back a steady groove, and Page
supplements with a lot of his standard Tweezer
accompaniment. ... just let Trey have control.
Trey's jamming is very sustained and eerie around 7
mins, and stays this way for a bit. It isn't that
engaging a version, especially in light of versions
I've covered more recently, but it isn't lame. THE
NOTE comes at 8 mins and the dying out of the jam
begins. Very straightforward... kinda a sad version,
frankly. No teases, no crazy jamming, nothing of any
special interest. Ends at about 9 minutes, with no
return to theme ending, either (I guess this return
to the theme ending occurred in '90 versions only,
but I'd have to check.. I thought it occurred in some
'91s too). Oh well. 3.0 rating.
