I highly recommend this show. The Stash and the Tweezer are excellent,
well-above average versions, even given the events of 1994-5. There
is
also a Harry Hood (E), of which I am most fond, as many of you know..
This Tweezer is definitely verrry engaging... the opening segment is
EXCITING. With a lot of noises from Trey (he's almost rapping
at
times.. not saying anything.. just making noises). Some great
jamming
from Mike, too, in this opening.. mmmmm-good! Not much of a
pre-Ebeneezer jam (there have been some great pre-Ebeneezer jams in
1994-5 versions). Lots of screaming and choas on the Ebeneeezer
lyric. Jam segment still kicks in at 4:20. Hmmm. 420. A
SIGN!
Right from the start, Trey is serious about the jam. He gets into a
groove with the others that is very raw and kick-ass, almost a slow
Judas Priest-esque groove ;^). This doesn't let up, but just
gets
stronger and jumps an octave after a few measures. Yes! At 6:52,
Trey
spirals off.. the jam practically stops, just loses steam and burns
out into fumbling. At 7:20 Trey starts chording and Mike starts
hitting notes, and then it picks up more and more into a frenzy.. just
nuts!! Not melodious. It is out of this chaos that an Antelope
jam
begins at 8mins!! It is not quite Antelope, but the spirit is
definitely there.. a few more chords and Trey would be playing
Antelope. Or Weekapaug, for that matter. Sortof an
Antelopian-weekapaug.. neat jam! Trey jams over the top of this
groove, Page teases Weekapaug, as does Trey at one point, and this
jam
just smokes.. Trey does some Cocaine-esque (Clapton) chords as well!!
This is a cool jam! Trey is melodiously jamming about these
simultaneous Cocaine and Weekapaug themes, as is Page. TOTAL
HOSE
ACTION at the 9:50 point, folks!!!! WOW!! This ain't your
average
Tweezer by any stretch. Everyone is just wailing away!
Then Trey starts repetitively jamming again at 10:15 or so, to signal
the faze out to a more laid back, semi-spacey jam, which does indeed
ensue. At 11 mins they are again in a stop-start mode, but it
is a
hell of a lot more engaging than 8/9/93. Trey throws in some
Suzy
Greenberg-esque chords.
The jam gets very reggae-ish at 11:30, but isn't Makisupa. It
is just
a reggae groove (not Buffalo Bill, either)... Fish kicks out the
reggae beat, just Walking on the Moon sort of chords from Trey and
steady, non-threatening support from Marco Mike es Quandolas.
At
12:39 the jam is sortof chaotic.. Fish seems to want to leave the
reggae mode, but the others won't let him. Trey signals at 13:09,
and
then does a reggae Simpsons tease at 13:20. At 13:40, the jam
is
again, nuts. I can't describe this. It ain't reggae, it
ain't rock..
it ain't spacey. It is Phish being crazy. Soon, though,
the jam
starts taking tweezer tones, and Trey starts playing the main tweezer
theme at 14:14, and the Tweezer jam steadily returns... no it
doesn't.. they segue back into a chaotic stop-start sort of groove.
Awry crap from everyone, and then at 15:40 Trey and Fish (they know
each other too well) kick mightily back into a Tweezer groove,
and
Page and Mike jump in. WOW! I know I am not even adequately
describing this Tweezer.. oh well. I wasn't too fond of these
last
few minutes (I prefer the majesty of 10/22/95), but there was some
sweet jamming in this Tweezer. This whole final Tweezer jam is great,
though! THE NOTE comes at 17:22, and the dying out of the jam segment
begins. Trey adds a really spooky melodious little lick to this ending
jam (definitely the most melodious dying out of the jam segment jam
I've ever heard them do)... very pretty. Page and Mike join in...Fish
is just dying out the rhythm. Someone audience member lets out
a big
WHOOOOP, and I'm there, man, I'm there! This was a great version
of
Tweezer. The Weekapaug-esque jamming earlier on was quite
awe-inspiring, and I encourage everyone who is into Phish hose moments
to check this out. Total time 19:35. Highly recommended.
8.25

thanks to Mark powers for the substantial upgrade!)
