6/10/94 Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO (Rvwd 12/94) Well, this
is another absolutely sweet version of Tweezer.
However, unlike 8/12/93's version, this one is longer at 15 minutes
or so and definitely is a must-have 8.5. Tweezer kicks in at
Curtain's end, and Mike just smokes the opening. He's very present
in the mix. It's a really active beginning with lots of rapping
and ch-ch-ing and whammying from Trey. Sounds really wild... Definitely
not your run-of-the-mill Tweezer opening. Trey and
Mike really fucking wail. Page is there, and of course Fish, but they
aren't standing out. When the jam kicks in, Trey grooves on
a theme that sounds very great... one that might have been snorking
around in his mind prior to the evening's festivities... This
jam is definitely tighter than Tweezer usually is at this point. Crispier..
fiery! The first Red Rocks Tweezer indeed!! Everyone fits
together really well.. no dissonant clashes or spacey bullshit. There
is great soloing from everyone, all over the range, and then
some great sustains from Trey at perfect moments. It sounds like Trey
might be playin' a Jackson Browne tune at one point, a
tune the name of which I should know but can't recall. Anyway, after
all the soloing, the jam slows, kinda levels out, but shit, not
by much. Everyone is still active, but the level that had been maintained
earlier definitely dropped a notch. This is a kickass jam,
folks, that leaves me ill at ease to attempt to effectively communicate
its power. The jam starts climbing and climbing even from
this rather high "notch".. by the time it climaxes, you can't help
but soar with it. It is a sweaty and orgasmic Tweezer, very
original and magnificent.. Definitely not typical in the sense of "Eerie,
dark, spooky, etc." .. it is a version that smiles on you.
Followed by Lifeboy (as usual for '94), this version nonetheless is
a must-have. Lifeboy is such a fitting topping on this delicious
tweezer-cake, although it is too bad there's a young lady screaming
rather annoyingly at the beginning of it on my copy.. 15
minutes or so for this version of Tweezer. 8.5 (A) must have rating
easy.
