5/22/94 Vogue Theatre, Vancouver, BC (Rvwd 1/95) First off, this show witnessed perhaps the longest "nothing" stretch
before the end of Glide (you know, where they are completely silent for awhile before finishing Glide..). Anyway, after an
interminably long period during this Nothing-stretch, Trey says something to the effect of: "We'd like to a do number called
'Ooomp. There it is.'" ;^) Then Glide finally ends and Peaches kicks in full force. This was an excellent first set, with a
Demand->Sloth opener, a magnificent Divided, and a good Split & Fluffhead. The McGrupp's->Tweezer highlighted the
second. The Tweezer was 15 minutes with a long dying out ending, so it was basically average 1994 length. The segue out of
McGrupp's wasn't special.. Tweezer just kicked in, really. Standard opening segment. The jam segment EXPLODES out of the
opening lyrics segment. It begins in wailing, typically tweezeresque mode, only even more quick and raw than usual. Everyone
sounds PUMPED for this version at the start. By the 8 min mark, the groove soars, and everyone is contributing heavily. There
is no dissonance, no chaos, no space; just solid, no bullshit jamming. Trey sustains once and a while, and ferociously attacks the
strings at other times. Mike, Fish, and Page are all present, but none of them breaks away.. Trey leads. At around the 12 min
mark, the jam does get weird and chaotic, as it is oft to do at this point, but only for a very brief time (fortunately). The jam
kicks out of weird/semi-dissonant/spacey mode rapidly, and everyone just wails Together until the dying out of the theme jam
begins (too soon). This version was definitely above average in intensity, but nothing overwhelming happened. It was a kickass,
strong, no space Tweezer. 5.5 rating (B) 15 minutes or so. (thanks for the crispy tape, Scott Jordan of Concert Review Poll
