Thanks Tony for the set (a set of first impression for me).
Mike and Fish goof off a little in the very beginning, otherwise the
opening is standard (kinda loose, actually). Tempo is definitely
on the
slow side. A little screaming on Ebeneezer but not much..
Jam segment at 4:45 (late.. slow tempo). Trey almost immediately
begins soloing by repeating some very groovy, funky licks o'er and
o'er, with ultra-rich phhhhaaaaat bass from Mike. Very cool opening
to the jam (waaaay the hell better than 7/22/93, which I just listened
to).
Jam proceeds in a steady, somewhat-dragging tweezeresque fashion.
Trey climbs the 'doc slowly around 7 minutes, and then does it again
after a little hard-rock soloing. Page's accompaniment is
particularly appropos given Trey's repeated steady climbs up the
scales of the 'doc... still, no enchantingly harmonious improv, or
anything especially awe-inspiring, in this version at all.
Around 8:45 or so Trey gets incredibly dull, repeating an awry
tweezeresque lick over and over and over.. but he drops it soon and
the jam spirals and twirls and double-backs like a decent average
Tweezer should.. one hell of a roller coaster ride (just not a
particularly melodious one).
THE NOTE at 10:34 or something, and then the typical dying out of the
tweezer theme ending. Total time 11:24. 4.25 rating.
Eliza followed.. I'd love to hear Eliza *live* at some point. (yuh)
