Subject: UTICA REVIEW
 
        hmmmm, where to start. first off, myself and a gang off friends bought
tickets in great anticipation of the show. them, i heard the album. at
first, i was a bit put off. then , the damn thing grew on me like mold on
bad egg salad. the more i listened the more i enjoyed. having seen phish
and trey past solo tours, i realized that this new breed was to be nothing
of the sort. i had seen les this past summer opening for phil lesh.
claypools' set was ten times better than phils. so, before utica, i had an
idea of the showmanship that was going to be on display. so, i then waited
for the show.
slowly, the date approached. we formed a quasi-caravan and headed to that
jewel in the crown of the leatherstocking region known as utica.
(utica?!?!?!) anyrate, my buddies and i rented several hotel rooms and
proceeded to pre-game until it was time to shoot over to the show. the
majority of my buddies made the trip...bunkman, handsome dan, j-dubbz,
millhouse, little johnnie p.(+buddies from vt....forgot the names), sean-o,
bividy bone, t-mac, reece, road headda, the suburbanite, and my self. we
left for the show....parking was a hassle, but kudos to "phish guy" for
helping us out. we missed lake trout and settled into a spot in the middle
of the floor about 20 yards back from the stage. the lights went dark and
the show began.
wow...i wasn't ready for the amount of energy these guys played with. the
first tune, "oz is ever floating" was great. i'm not sure of the order
after that however. everything was going great....then it happened. i
turned to my buddy and said "are those antlers on the guitar????" i believe
that was during the song radon balloon. amazing...les aslo switched it up
several times going from the make shift bass w/the handle to a bass banjo
to an upright electric bass back to regular variety bass. also, the light
goggles he wore were sweet. i got a kick when les referred to trey as "mr
happy pants himself, trey anastasio"....les was off the hook in
utica...running around the stage banging on his bass guitar. the show
wouldn't have been as powerful without stewart copeland on the drums. he
was punching the clock back there..the rhythm was great the whole night.
thank stewart...the sounds that came from him during "wield the spade" were
fantastic.  before i knew it, like it always is at a good show, the encore
was upon us. the power trio came out and banged out an awesome version of
"the immigrant song." wow. such energy, mixed with world class musicians =
excellent concert.
those coming looking for phish or phishy-like music were probably
disappointed. but, to them, all i have to say is "it's not phish!!!!...try
new things!!!" i'm glad to see that trey is out, expanding his musical
circle. i thought the show was fantastic. my compliments to the band.

Subject: Oysterhead 10-9-01
 
I was at the Utica show on Friday.  I went with two
friends and an extra ticket that proved to be quite
the struggle to get rid of.  Every thrird person had
extras so there were people selling the $30 tickets
for $5.
 
The "patting down" was kept to a minimum and the beer
counter would serve almost anyone.  We missed Lake
Trout but heard good things.
 
The show opened with Oz is Floating, good tune.Armies
on Ecstacy into Radon Balloons stuck out as quite
good.They mostly went through the album and closed the
set with Birthday Boys(my personal favorite) and a
good Mr. Oysterhead.  The entire show lasted about an
hour and a half two hours tops.  I was quite
diaapointed with the length, but the quality of the
show I thought was excellent.  I would see them again
but a tour for shows that were this short is out of
the question.

OK, here's my idea on the whole Oysterhead thing.
 1.)Trey, quit the crap w/ Oysterschwag, and get it out of your system
 2.) Do another solo tour w/ your other band after your album release in
the spring
 3.) Do your stuff w/ the Orchestra(s), that would be a nice treat.
 4.) Get back together w/ the other 3 guys about a year from now, hang
out, pick up your instruments, smoke a phatty, drink a Magic Hat No. 9,
and come back and tour the whole US except for the East Coast, in the
summer of 2003. Thank You.

Subject: Oysterhead Review for 11/9  Utica Memorial Auditorium
 
I don't know what band most of the people saw that have been giving the
negative reviews on this site but what I saw on Friday night in Utica was
nothing short of awesome!  If you have been wondering whether or not to see
this band, hesitate no more I say!  It is definately not phish, yet the show
last night was definately dominated and led by Trey.  Copeland and Claypool
provided however what Phish cannot:  virtuoso compliments that rival the
skills of Trey himself.  Highlights for the night definately included Mr
Oysterhead, Armies, Radon Balloon, and Psuedo Suicide.
 
Its very sad to hear all these negative reveiews from supposed "fans" on
this website.  Oysterhead is definately a step-up from the band Trey was
playing with this past summer and a welcome breath of fresh air from Phish.
I hope to see these guys play for a long time and not to see all you whiny
little bi%$^%s at the next show.
