Just a couple of additions/corrections to Shelly's setlist (I will
be writing a more thorough review later on.........)

My Sweet One: Before the final ".......Name", the band paused
and complained of Bass problems. The Phish man himself turned
emcee and started telling jokes!

Mikes Song: Jam contined numerous "Walk This Way" (the Aerosmith tune)
quotes.

Weekapaugh Groove: Trampolines were brought out for this one and were
used. Dry ice was also released for this one; and the band did
numerous signals (including "Aww Fuck" and the one to run behind their
amps). The gong was brought out and Trey faked us all out by pretending
to hit it and then not doing it!

Tweezer: Contained the Big Ball Jam

Harpua: Actually contained Jimmy Olsen's Blues (not Little Miss
Can't Be Wrong) - the intro riff was played and the first line
was sung.

Golgi: Power died at the lighting board (I was right behind it in
the taping section, so I saw them going crazy trying to figure it
out)

Maze was particularly hot, and much better than the one I saw this
summer at the Arts Center Santana show.......

Hale and Hearty Greetings...
A quick thanks to the netfolk who helped us (myself and John
Schlesinger) acquire tickets for the Saturday PC show at the last
minute... after standing around for 2 hours with dozens of other desperate
fans, we happened into one ticket and then had Lee Silverman tell us, spur
of the moment, that we could have his ticket from Rich Fromm because he
had just gotten an extra. Any of you who saw us holding up the "RICH
FROMM" sign by the ticket line know what that was all about... Rich showed
up, and sure enough, we got the extra ticket. A nod also to Jay Flemma,
for his optimism about the ticket situation.
The ticket scene really was insane... tons of people looking, and very
few tickets available. I thought there would be scalpers a' plenty,
looking to make a buck, but I saw very few.
Final comments: Maze was the highlight, but I still think it's best as
an opening number. Right before Harpua, virtually the entire front
row was screaming "HARPUA!" and Trey turned to Page, said something, and
then went back and they started the song... a fulfilled request, perhaps?
Any information about the video cameras rolling throughout the show? I
want to get the tape, mainly to see the brilliant "I didn't Know" duet by
Jay and Lee filmed outside the theatre before the show.

Hello everyone!

I seem to have missed the net gathering yet again... did it happen on
Saturday?? I was too late on Friday, but I went by the Cafe a couple
times on Saturday and never saw anyone...

I think that Saturday was the single hottest Phish show I have ever seen
in my life. Every single song was performed with unbridled energy and
blew me away. Friday was a rager too, and I was wondering how they were
going to top it... well, they managed. I love Port Chester!!! After
Stonybrook it was so refreshing to see a mellow scene and be in a place
with excellent acoustics :-) I hope Phish hasn't outgrown the place...
if they ever play there again I am going to be the first in line to make
sure I get tickets.

Did anyone notice a few boos in the audience during the Spin Doctors jam
in Harpua??? Guess there are a few docs fans (personally I thought it
was hilarious, and the Spin Doctors drive me nuts so I was very psyched
for Phish to show their disrespect :-).

High points... whew... there were so many. Stash was blazing. Maze was
sick ... and have they ever put anything after Avenu before going back
into MWSIY?? Mikes was completely out of control. I think you get the
idea. Harpua was merely icing on an already gigantic cake... and it
was great!! One of the best I've heard (well I've only seen it in
concert once before at Syracuse, which sucked because the sound was
so bad I couldn't understand half the story :-) but have heard a few
on tape). What a killer show!

Well, I know it's a bit late to be saying things
about Portchester, since the quicker netheads have
probably already posted lavish reviews of the wonderful
shows we witnessed - however, I felt it was my civic
duty to at least add a couple of cents worth..

As y'all know by now, we got a McGrupp and a Harpua,
and that made me very happy. Plus an all-expenses paid
trip inside Fishman's brain, in two installments! Trey
has been getting VERY creative with his little Forbin-
Mickingbird segues, and on Friday, he actually did what
might be considered a rap, a VERY quick series of
comments that seemed pretty much impromptu (as much of it
might have been) all done in a quick, triplet rhythm...
extremely impressive! Fishman's Windham Hell (as he is
still calling it) was cool, since it was more or less
audience participation, AND he threw in a couple of
Jimi Hendrix tribute riffs on the ol' acoustic gee-tar.

I think the funniest moment for my concertgoing dollar
was when Fish tried to solo during something and ended
up dropping a stick way out infront of the drum riser.
He just stopped utterly and looked at it for a moment,
somewhat forlornly, and then looked up at the crowd
and shouted "Jimi Hendrix Birthday, ladies and gentlemen!"
and got a huge round of applause anyway! Seeing Trey
Dance with his grandmother was touching, and seeing
him and Mike play with, and eventually punt the rubber
nipples that I threw up on stage was enjoyable too.
And all I can say about Mike's->Groove on Sat. is that
I have never seen them play it so hard and with such
VISUAL intensity. Chris was going NUTS with the strobes,
and watching Mike and Trey race back and forth across the
stage in stroboscopic stop-motion and being intermittently
blinded by other strobe flashes was quite a cumulative experience.

Well, since I'm going on 4 hours of sleep, it's time to
hit the trail, and say thanks to everyone who made my
weekend that much more enjoyable. And thanks to Rich's
Brother, without whom we may never have had the opportunity
to grace the pages of Business Week magazine!!! (we still
don't know if it'll happen or not, but check out thise coming
Friday's issue and you may see one or more PhishNetters
in there... maybe even a net shirt!). To all those who
are just about to see them, get psyched (like you needed
me to tell you that...) - you're in for a romp. Llama is
STILL getting faster!

Take care of those gosh-darned shoes!

Matt

A few more thoughts about Port Chester (look when you travel 5000+ miles
to see two concerts, you're going to want to talk about them for a
while...): 1) Wasn't that the worst crowd that you have ever seen at a
Port Chester show?
I mean they couldn't get anyone to shut up during Memories.
2) Approx. Timings:
11/27 First Set 94 minutes, Second Set 80 Minutes, Encore 6 Min. (I think)
11/28 First Set 74 Minutes, Second Set 80 Minutes, Encore 10 Minutes

3) No one mentioned Mike's improv. during Contact. With all of the
commotion surrounding Trey's grandmother, Mike forgot where he was in the
song, and was forced to come up with "The tires are the things on your
hood when you get back to your home." I laughed...

| I think the film crew will be in St. Louis and Chicago also, if I remember
| correctly. If you see them, and have something to say, go get their attention!
| They were having some difficulty finding folks who had any thoughts to share
| in Port Chester (with the exception of Lee and Jay); it would be nice if

| thoughtful and articulate folks who add so much to the net.

Hmmm....it didn't seem that Trey wasn't too psyched to be filmed close-up
himself on stage; did anyone else notice that? I forgot which song it
was, but during one of his solos, the guy with the video-cam-on-a-stick
(for lack of a better word for it) kept trying to get a close low-angle
shot of Trey, but Trey kept waving the camera away as if he were really
annoyed by it....Dave and I had a little chuckle over that....
I'd be psyched to see the videotape, though, and I'm glad to hear that Lee
and Jay got their chance to be stars...I guess that's 15 mins. of fame for
you!
Take care, y'all!

Subject: A portchester story

I had a rather interesting experience with a security guard at the
saturday Portchester show. As the Band kicked in to Suzy Greenburg I
proceeded to light a bowl. I felt a heavy hand come down upon my
shoulder and turned to face a rather large security guard. He asked
me what was in the pipe and my heart sank. Was he going to take my
beloved pipe? or worse yet was I about to be thrown out on the street?
I told him that it was tobacco and that I would put it away if
smoking was a no-no. He then asked to smell this so-called tobacco. I
told him this was uneccesary and that I would simply put my pipe away
and we could end the discussion. He then promised that if I would let
him smell what was in the bowl he would not kick me out. Well, with
nothing to lose, I held the bowl up to his nose. Suddenly, a big grin
appeared on his face. He said, "smell like kind buds, I'd smoke a bowl
If I were you." You can bet your whole tape collection that is exactly
what I did.

As a bonus for those who read this whole story,
"I have Colechester and Albany tapes!"
Always willing to trade!!! ;)

Hi! I know this has been done over & over already, but I went
straight from Poirtchester to Denver/Tempe so I haven't been near a
computer
and wanted desperately not to ramble on about the incredible Portchester
shows since so many others beat me to it, but I can't help it!!
Outside of my favorite GD shows, i've never been moved so much by
a pair of shows in my life.... There's so much that happened
I can't begin to explain it, but it was incredible... We decided early
on Saturday on line with the railrats (Me) & the tapers (Friends of me :-)
to will for a Harpua, so everybody around us was going nuts by
the end of Honey Love, the "Harpua" screams are very audible on the
tapes and you can actualy hear the upfront people flipping out with the
"ooom pah pah".... Also, the McGrupp->I Walk The Line->Bowie on the first
night was insane, the I Walk The Line->Bowie is seamless, fishman pulled
out a winning groove!!!! A couple other random memories, the Div Sky
was totaly out there, with a wild jam at the end unlike any i've
ever heard them play...Same for the Split open & Melt... And that Mikes
Groove.... Oh man, with those lights & the "Walk This Way" jam (Did
anyone else hear that?) at one point smoke came out & covered the crowd!

Oh, as for the film crew, we talked to them for a while, they were totally
bugged out by the tapers & interviewd a couple of the early arrivals
on line, and a bunch of them inside (Harry! :-) I finally met a bunch
of phishnetters, even though I didn't make the gathering, that was
realy great!!! If they even approach this during the New Years
run....:-)

I've rambled through enough bandwith!
Take care....
David
