 Howdy Pholks!
Wow, what a show! I was truly aMAZEd by the whole thing. First
things first, though, here is the Phish set list:

    Rift
    Horn
    Sparkle
    It's Ice
    All Things Reconsidered
    Maze
    I Didn't Know
Possum w/ Simpsons language in intro

I thought Phish played really well, and the crowd enjoyed them,
especially during Sparkle, It's Ice and Maze. A group of
us asPhishionados snuck into the pavillion and situated ourselves
about tenth row. The band looked great, Mike had on a flourescent
green and kind of yellow outfit. Page and Trey both were well dressed
and lookin' sharp. The set was a little longer than I expected,
after hearing that they were playing as little as 40 minute sets.
We were some of the only people standing and dancing in the pavillion,
but there were plenty of Pholks dancing on the lawn, and the hangout/
smoking area was on the stage left side of the lawn, which is where
we spent the rest of the show after the Phish set. I saw a bunch of
tpers that I know at the show and there were many decks running.
One thing that I thought was interesting was that Phish played all
new songs except for Possum. I love all of them so no complaints
from this phishy.
I didn't write down the Santana set, but I remember it well. The show
started with the Bill Graham intro, and now I can't remember the
first or second song, but the third was the title track from his new
release, Milagro. Carlos dedicated the song to Stevie Ray Vaughan,
Bill Graham and Miles Davis. Carlos has not lost it at all nor has
he sold out, which is always commendable. He was wearing a great
tie-dyed outfit, and everything had Bob Marley on it. We were treated
to the usual Carlos hits, and they were played well. About halfway
through the set, Carlos brought out Phish to jam with him. Everyone
was on stage, with Fish switching from shakers to tambourines to talking
drum. The jam was long and at times free form, with Carlos and Trey
either taking turns soloing or trading licks. I was sent back to the
days of Carlos and John McGlaughlin, with the master showing the
young student how it is done. This is my kind of education! It
was obvious to me that Carlos thinks Trey is going to be one of the
greats some day, and wants to pass on to him some of the knowledge
he has learned. In the middle of this jam, Fish got to do a talking
drum solo, which was short but impressive. He tried to move the
band into playing Coltrane's A Love Supreme, but it never happened.
What followed was an awesome blues jam, Santana style. When it was
time for the keyboards to do it up, Chester Thompson let Page take
a MONSTER piano solo. Let me tell you, it smoked! That fellow can
play. After the jam, Trey gave Carlos a big hug, and our boys
left the stage all smiles. They have got to be having so much
fun on this tour. The rest of the Santana set was stellar, and
noone cared about the rain and 50 degree temperatures that were
present the entire show. There was another guest, and I think
he was a local guy, but I didn't catch his name. He was this big
African guy with a huge hat that made him llok like he had the
biggest mowhawk ever. He had a beautiful drum attatched to his
waist that allowed him to dance and drum, and he did that well.
He got to take a big solo duriong A Love Supreme, and stayed for
the rest of the set. At one point Carlos pointed at his shirt
and said, "Let's hear it for Bob Marley!" and called out
"Jah Rastafari!", and then went off on how things are looking
positive, and we have to find that positive vibration. I love the
man.:-) The Tribal Stomp was the encore and left everyone
smiles for the walk back to the muddy parking lot.

This tour is raging forward, and if they are coming anywhere
near you soon, DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW!!!!!! Carlos is in top
form, and Phish is definitely picking up some of that positive
Santana energy.
By the way, Aquarium rescue unit is playin Sunday, Aug. 2 at
Sully's in Dearborn, Michigan, so don't miss it.

                        Yours in Phishdom,
                              Brian
