10/26/89 Wetlands, NYC, NY (Rvwd 11/95) Standard opening (usual
time.. not mellow). "Tramps" segment comes in at usual time (2:30 ish),
although I am not sure if they were on the tramps for this. Mike is FIERCE
in his 30 seconds with Page before Trey comes in. He just wails away (Page
is just tooling around). Trey comes in at 3:12 sustaining.. though not
off-key. In the first 40 seconds he's only played 5 notes or so. He's very
laid back in this jam.. Mike is the one who is really wailing. He's all
over the damn bass.. shit. Trey just kinda sustains here and there, doesn't
jam. Post tramps segment, like other '89 versions and 4/20/89, doesn't
exist.. Hydrogen comes in quickly at 6 mins or so in this version, typical
of these relatively early MikeS. Tis straightforward, and ends at 8:17,
when Weekapaug shows up. Mike's opening solo is typical of the older versions,
and very similar to 4/20/89. Snappy and funky and jumpy.. nothing terribly
impressive (for Mike). The opening verse, like 4/20/89 and other versions
of olde, is fairly mellow.. just kinda plods along. Doesn't sound like
they care much for "sharin in the groove"... ;) Trey starts jamming right
off the line in this version, though, unlike on 4/20/89. Mike is jamming
well, too, snapping away.. as is Page. Fish is just keeping time. Trey's
jamming is very typical of jams he's done in other olde Weekapaugs. Nothing
unusually breathtaking, given what he is capable of, but it is still great
stuff, of course! Don't misunderstand me.. he's just not as clean and creative
as he has been in recent years. I know, experience.. He slips up a bit
in this version, perhaps, though, moreso than usual, but that's because
he is really wailing at times.. gettin' ahead of himself. Final theme/verse
segment kicks in at 12:45 or so. C rating. Total time 13:50.
