Subject:      Ghost Story 8: 6/22/97 The Ghost of The Man Mulcahey
From:         "Martin Acaster" <macaster@sprintmail.com>

Hey There one and all.

This Ghost Story comes to you from the Deutsche Eck the confluence of the
Mosel and Rhine if I'm not mistaken. It was so long since I was in Koblenz
(the site for the Loreley festival, which featured this Ghost), cruising the
river avoiding the whirlpools looking for sirens to lure me onto the rocks
and have their way with me....a boy can dream can't he...anyway....thanks to
Dan Mittag for the tape.

Loreley Festival, Koblenz, Germany 6/22/97 The Ghost of The Man Mulcahey

This Ghost comes on the heels of a nice Ragtime Gal, the prologue opening
with a quiet countoff at the standard (0:00) mark.  The prologue is as is
usual lyrically flubless, trey seems to dominate the singing it is
pornofunky from the start with some prominent mike and page. The verse break
is somewhat extended and comes in two sections. The first half dominated by
Page with the second half featuring everybody (but mellow trey)  with a
large sound from Mike and Fishman. The prologue comes to a close a little
longer than typical at around (3:30) after some rather INSISTENT Ghost!!'s
from Trey. The first three and a half or so minutes of this Ghost Story is
definitive Porno-Funk. A great groove from Mike and Fish some inter-stellar
(as in pulsar laser) fills from Page and some wailing funky scratch guitar
from Trey.  Trey appears to start off on a theme that could very easily have
become weekapaugian in nature but does not. Instead roughly by the (8:00)
minute mark, this Ghost has (through a gin-like time distortion) slid back
into Character Zero. This is confirmed by some dooo doood doood doood
odododood doos but no bop bop bop typical of the Character Zero end Jam.
This is no longer funk just plain balls out Rock and Roll. The Ghost of the
Man Mulcahey in all his glory. This Ghost is short it is sweet and is going
to require some changes to the setlists.
